Privacy Policy

Carbon Sight is operated by Chain Reaction Labs Inc. ("Carbon Sight," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Carbon Sight app and website (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We built Carbon Sight to be a transparent, open-methodology carbon tool, and we take the same approach to your privacy: we collect as little as possible and we tell you exactly what we do with it.

Information we collect

Photos and images you scan. When you point your camera at a product or upload an image, that image is sent to our carbon-scoring engine and our AI vision provider so we can identify the product and estimate its carbon footprint. Images are processed to produce your score and are not used to build advertising profiles or sold to anyone.
Subscription and purchase information. If you subscribe, your payment is processed by Apple (for in-app purchases on iOS) or Stripe (on the web). We receive confirmation that a purchase or subscription is active and which tier you hold. We never receive or store your full card number.
Basic usage and device data. Like most apps, we may collect limited technical information such as app version, device type, general error/diagnostic logs, and non-identifying usage counts so we can keep the Service working and improve it.
Access codes. If you redeem a promotional access code, we store a flag on your device indicating the code and its expiry. This is kept locally in your browser/app storage.

We do not ask for your name, home address, government ID, or financial account numbers in order to use the Service.

How we use your information

To identify products and generate carbon scores you request.
To provide, maintain, and secure the Service and your subscription.
To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve accuracy and performance.
To respond to your support requests.

Service providers we share data with

We rely on a small number of trusted providers, and we share only what each one needs to do its job:

Apple — processes in-app subscription payments on iOS.
Stripe — processes payments on the web.
RevenueCat — manages subscription entitlements on iOS.
Anthropic (Claude) — provides the AI vision and reasoning that identifies products from your images. Images are sent for processing only to generate your result.
Cloudflare — hosts the Service and its data.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Data retention

We keep information only as long as needed to provide the Service and meet legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Scanned images are used to generate your score and are not retained for marketing or profiling.

Your choices and rights

You can stop using the Service at any time. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of information associated with you by contacting us at the address below. To cancel a subscription, see the "Subscriptions" section of our Terms of Use. On iOS, subscriptions are managed in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Children's privacy

Carbon Sight is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect information in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit what we collect in the first place.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app and on this page.
